Awaken Your Spine

Come and join us on this 12 week SOMATIC discovery course where you will be guided in to your centre: a place where you can be yourself with ease, as well as give and receive clear communication with the rest of your body.

Why the Spine?

Your spine is involved in all of your movement choices.  It is the gateway to movement freedom and possibility, with its ability to bend forwards, backwards, sideways, and to rotate.

It is also the container for the flow of information that travels through the nervous system that is embedded within it; for the messages that are transmitted between the brain and the rest of your body, and beyond.

It’s the super-highway, along which, neural clusters gather at various junctions, which correspond to the chakras, in the yogic energy system, as well as your endocrine system that contains major organs and glands.

Having a clearer connection to your spine, both through awareness (sensation) and movement, can give you access to well-being, not only on a physical level, but also energetically and emotionally, too.

What’s involved?

The course takes place online through 12 weekly video lessons, organised within 6 modules:

sensing | flexing | extending | side flexing | rotating | elongating

Each lesson will be between 30-40 mins long and it is recommended that you re-visit the class 2-3 times a week to deepen your learnings. Beyond that, you will have lifetime access to the course.

All you need, is a comfortable surface to lie on (classes will include lying on your back, your front, your side, as well as seated and standing elements), and a willingness to explore, and learn something new.

This Self Study course gives you complete freedom of when and where you decide to take class.

It’s perfect if you prefer to work alone, are self-motivated and want to create your own schedule.

Between December 11th 2022 and February 26th 2023, a new class will be added each week for 12 weeks. You then get to take the class when you want, and as often as you want, discovering new aspects of yourself every time you revisit.

This course has lifetime access (that’s the lifetime of the course on the platform – and we’d give you plenty of notice and downloadable options if it was ever going to be removed)

What is Somatics?

Somatics is an approach to movement, that really requires you to start from a place of conscious awareness. While it may seem that the focus is on movement, really, the starting point is to gain an awareness of what is.

This means to build your awareness of proprioception (where you and all your body parts are in space) and interoception (how you sense all of those body parts, and your whole self, on the inside).

From that place, the movement becomes a journey of exploration and discovery. And this movement journey can provide you with more conscious awareness of your self, which can lead to greater ease, greater comfort, and greater freedom in your body.

Who is it for?

Somatics is ideal for you if you are interested in improving your connection to your body. If there are any areas in your body that cause you to not move as easily as you could, that might cause you discomfort, or you feel that you avoid certain activities because of, then Somatics can be a perfect starting point to undo some of these unconscious, often dormant, areas.

It is also an incredible companion to yoga, pilates, or other movement practices as it can shine a light on aspects of your movement habits that may need re-patterning or upgrading, so that you can begin to get way more out of your activities.

What’s in it for me?

This approach is a great tool for self awareness – improving your ability to self-sense, self-organise and self-actualise.  You get to rely on yourself and your own ability to create change in your body, rather than having to rely on others!  This can have an incredible impact in the way you navigate your everyday life and hugely improve your ease, mobility and comfort in your daily movements.

Yes. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to access this work because we know just how transformative it can be, and so there is a choice to pay in 3 instalments.

 

Meet your hosts

David and Amanda are Somatic Educators dedicated to sharing a somatic approach to movement students and teachers throughtout the world.

As well as having a background of various somatic practices (Nia, Aerial Yoga, Pranayama, Meditation), they have both studied and trained in Somatics from the lineage of Thomas Hanna, which has been a major focus of their work for the past 10 years.

They are currently living a nomadic lifestyle, sharing their wisdom as they travel.
