A Taste of Somatic Breathing
A free introduction to breathing, awareness and somatic exploration
What is Somatic Breathing?
Somatic breathing begins with your experience of breathing from within – how your breath feels, moves and changes from moment to moment.
Rather than beginning with an idea of how you should breathe, you can become curious about the breath that is already happening. You might notice its movement through your body, differences from one breath to another, or what changes when you bring your attention somewhere new.
At Radiant Star Yoga, we also make space for play and experimentation. You can explore different possibilities with the breath, notice what happens, and then let go of the exploration and allow breathing to find its own way again. There is no particular breathing pattern you need to achieve.
What’s included
A Taste of Somatic Breathing gives you five short guided sessions of around 12-23 minutes each, designed to be explored in sequence, followed by a 50-minute bonus class.
Across the five sessions, you’ll bring attention to different aspects of breathing: the in-breath, out-breath and the pauses between, before bringing them together with more space for play and experimentation.
The bonus class gives you more time to explore breathing in relation to your body, different positions and the space around you.

Is this for me?
A Taste of Somatic Breathing is especially suited to you if you’re curious about exploring breathing somatically, without being given a particular way you should breathe.
NEW TO SOMATIC BREATHING?
You don’t need any previous experience of somatics, breathwork or breathing practices.
CURIOUS TO EXPLORE?
Come with a willingness to notice your breath, sense what is happening and explore different possibilities in your own way.
NO RIGHT WAY TO BREATHE
These sessions aren’t about learning a correct breathing pattern or trying to make your breath conform to an ideal. The invitations give you different ways to explore and experience your own breathing.

Decades of teaching, exploring and learning
Our work has drawn on many different influences over the years, and it has continued to change as we’ve taught, practised and learned from the people we’ve worked with.
A Taste of Somatic Breathing offers a simple introduction to the way we explore breathing. David guides the sessions, with Amanda taking part, so you can see the invitations being explored as well as hear them. Rather than teaching you how you should breathe, we invite you to notice, experiment and discover more about your own experience of breathing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this suitable if I am completely new to Somatic Breathing?
Yes. You don’t need any previous experience of somatics, breathwork or breathing practices. The sessions begin with the breath that is already happening and invite you to notice, sense and explore from there.
What do I need for the sessions?
You’ll need somewhere you can be comfortable and relatively undisturbed. The sessions explore breathing in different positions, so you may want a mat or comfortable surface to lie on, along with any cushions, blankets or other support that helps you settle. You can always adapt the position or invitation to suit yourself.
Do I need to follow the sessions in order?
We recommend beginning with Session 1 and working through the five short sessions in sequence, as each introduces a different aspect of the breathing cycle and builds on what has come before. The longer bonus class is there for you once you’ve explored all five.
How long will I have access?
You’ll have ongoing access to the course, so there’s no need to complete it within a particular time. You can return to individual sessions or the bonus class whenever you’d like to explore them again.
What happens after I sign up?
Once you sign up, you’ll be given access to A Taste of Somatic Breathing in our online course area. You can begin straight away and work through the sessions in your own time.
