Pranaleela
exploring breath through playful curiosity
our pranaleela classes
In Pranaleela, breathing becomes something to explore through movement, sensation, sound, imagery, different positions and changing patterns of breath. Sometimes the exploration is quiet and subtle; at other times it may be playful, active or rather unusual.
Across the classes, attention moves through different areas and relationships within your body – including your ribs, diaphragm, abdomen, pelvis and lungs – while familiar ways of breathing sit alongside possibilities you may not have encountered before.
Rather than working towards a particular way of breathing, each class offers a different setting in which to become curious about your breath and discover more of your own potential for breathing.
two series, two different explorations
pranaleela series 1
Five spacious explorations of breathing, with an emphasis on sensation, imagery, subtle movement and the support of the ground.
Across the series, you’ll explore internal space and volume, different dimensions of your body, breath and light, contraction and release, and experiences of centre. Much of the exploration takes place lying down, allowing time to settle into each experience and notice what unfolds.
The classes are around 60-75 minutes each and can be taken in any order.

more about pranaleela
David’s interest in breathing began through yoga and Pranayama, long before somatics became part of his teaching. He trained in Pranayama and spent years practising and teaching established breathing techniques.
As his exploration of somatics developed, his relationship with those practices began to change. He became less interested in how many repetitions he could do, or how proficient he could become at a particular technique, and more curious about the quality of the experience – what he could actually sense, and what possibilities might become available through greater awareness.
Breathing gradually became something to explore rather than something to perfect: playing with movement, sensation, sound, imagery, position and different patterns of breath, and noticing what emerged.
The name Pranaleela grew out of this way of working. Prana is often translated as breath or life energy, while leela is a Sanskrit word meaning play. Together, they reflect the curiosity and playfulness at the heart of these classes.
Pranaleela isn’t a fixed sequence or a system to master. It’s a name we’ve come to use for this particular strand of David’s teaching – an invitation to explore breathing from many different directions and discover more of your own potential for breath.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need any experience of somatics or breathing practices?
No. You don’t need any previous experience of somatics, breathwork or Pranayama. You can begin exactly where you are.
Do I need to watch the screen throughout class?
No. David guides each class verbally, so you can spend much of the time attending to your own experience. Amanda is visible on screen in many of the classes, exploring the invitations for herself rather than demonstrating a particular way to do them.
What's the difference between Series 1 and Series 2?
Series 1 contains five spacious explorations with an emphasis on sensation, imagery, subtle movement and the support of the ground. Series 2 contains eight varied and playful explorations using movement, sensation, sound, imagination, different positions and changing patterns of breath.
Neither series is a prerequisite for the other. You can choose whichever interests you most, or explore all thirteen classes in the Pranaleela Collection.
Do I need any equipment?
Nothing special. You’ll need somewhere comfortable to sit or lie down, with cushions, blankets or other support, like a rolled towel. Some classes also include standing explorations.
How long are the classes?
Series 1 contains five classes of around 60-75 minutes, with approximately 5¾ hours altogether. Series 2 contains eight classes of around an hour, with approximately 8 hours altogether. The complete collection gives you over 14 hours of classes.
Do I need to take the classes in a particular order?
No. Each class is an exploration in itself, so you can begin wherever your curiosity takes you. You may also enjoy working through a series in order and noticing what you encounter along the way.
How do I access the classes, and how long will I have access?
Once your payment is complete, you’ll receive an email with everything you need to access your chosen Pranaleela series or the complete collection. You can log in straight away and begin whenever you’re ready.
You’ll have lifetime access through our online course platform, so you can return to the classes whenever you like.
