Your Sensational Breathing Body

a gentle exploration of breath through sensation, movement, and awareness of the profound intelligence that is breathing You

somatic walking

Breathing happens automatically. We don’t have to think about it. But just because it’s always happening doesn’t mean we’re actually feeling it.

Many of us have learned how to control our breath: how to breathe deeply, hold our breath, slow it down, or use it to calm ourselves. That can be useful.

But we’ve rarely been encouraged to feel the breath as a physical, sensory experience—how it moves through the body, where it flows freely, where it gets held, and how it changes moment by moment.

This course is an invitation to notice more, push less, and rediscover what it’s like to breathe from the inside out, and the transformative power that it holds.

Whether you’re completely new to somatic work or have explored breath practices before, ‘Your Sensational Breathing Body‘ offers something simple and rich.

Each session is a doorway into deeper intimacy with your own breath, revealing breathing not as a technique or goal, but as a responsive field within which your aliveness becomes more available, more articulate, and more joyfully engaged.

what’s inside?

You’ll receive 8 recorded sessions, each focusing on a specific aspect of breathing.  Each session offers a distinct ‘current’ in a flow of deepening awareness and activation. Together they form a continuum – a breathing body of wisdom you can return to and move through as many times as you like.

1. Progressive Pandiculation
We begin with a gentle, intelligent unfolding of movement that invites the body to soften, open, and attune to its natural breathing rhythm, systematically contracting and releasing muscle groups. This session establishes a fertile inner ground for breath sensing to emerge with clarity and grace.

2. Sound Exploration
Discover how vocal tones and mouth positions create varied sensations throughout your entire system, enhancing breathing awareness.  Be guided through the breath pathways of the head, jaw, nasal passages and throat. Experience how breath can become vibrational, awakening internal space and sensory articulation through voicing and tonal play.

3. Rib Awareness
With imagined touch as a sensory guide,  explore the left and right of your rib-basket, cultivating refined awareness through interoception and spatial curiosity. This session supports deeper dimensionality of breath entering and leaving through the lateral body and intercostal spaces

4. ‘Shuttle’ Breathing
This session draws awareness to the thoracic diaphragm as a central expression of breath’s movement between abdominal and rib spaces. Through spacious sensing and guided breath exploration, you will discover refined access to these areas of inner musculature developing ease, presence, and precision.

5. Four Zones of Breathing
Here you are invited to articulate breath into 4 distinct phases, plus inviting awareness to flow into 4 distinct sections of the chest and belly. This session will assist you in developing greater clarity in modulation, tone, direction, and depth of breathing. Enabling you to cultivate breathing that is multidimensional and more finely attuned.

6. Facial Structures & Throat
Building upon the experiences from some of the earlier sessions, you are introduced to hands-on contact with the chest, abdomen, and throat along with shaping sound through adjustments the mouth, throat and nose. This mix of touch and sounding amplifies awareness of how vocal shaping influences breath flow and can enhance your sense of overall bodily coherence.

7. Breastbone & Rib Mobility
In this session, you will be focusing into your breastbone and its relationship with rib movement, revealing the breastbone as a dynamic and fluid centre of breath expression. Movement explorations are then offered that invite greater suppleness and vibrancy in the back of your ribs (anterior thoracic space).

8. Breathing Patterns
This final session offers breath explorations through variations in entry and exit – left and right nostrils, nose and mouth, and subtle shaping of pauses and timing. During this session breathing becomes a fluid art-form, alive with personal nuance, internal dialogue, and expressive play.

why choose this course?

Because you’re not looking for another technique to get right.  You’re looking for a way to feel more connected to yourself.

This course isn’t about fixing your breath or achieving perfect control. It’s about discovering what’s already there – what’s been moving through you all along. The breath becomes a guide, not a task.

You’ll be invited to slow down, listen inwardly, and sense your breath from the inside out. Every session offers a different way in. You won’t be told how you should breathe. You’ll be gently guided to notice how you already do – and what might soften, shift, or expand if you pay attention.

It’s simple, but not superficial.
It’s structured, but flexible.
And it meets you where you are.

What does that mean?
It means you can begin just as you are – tense, tired, curious, distracted, grounded, overwhelmed, whatever… no need to prepare or perform.
The breath is always with you, and this course helps you feel that as a resource, not a demand. Deepening your relationship in and with your own sensational breathing body.

Join me in this living current. Let your own breath grow as a source of inner radiance, subtle joy, and continuous unfolding.

David Fleming has over 17 years teaching Somatics and over 30 years teaching and training experience working with individuals and groups in various settings. Within this course he will be guiding you through varied Somatic experiences to awaken new possibilities for your breath.

Here’s what David has to say about Somatic Breathing –

“My interest in Somatic Breathing grew out of immersion in Yogic Breathing in the early 2010’s which lead me to became a Pranayama teacher. Following on from that my interest in Somatics started in 2011 when I began training with Essential Somatics. This culminated in my certification in 2017 as a fully qualified Somatic Educator. Later that year I began teaching Somatic Breathing sessions during a stay in India and this blossomed into numerous online SomaBreathe courses from 2020 to 2021. From there as I immersed myself more and more in Breathing with a Somatic focus I was inspired to replace Pranayama with Pranaleela (Yama the Hindu word for constraint/expansion. Leela the Hindu word for Play) Over the last year I’ve been working on developing new breathing content which invites playful curiosity. The intention being to develop awareness and expanded capabilities through explorative play. This represents a return to childhood learning patterns that previously formed the basis for existing ways of doing what you do. My current work focuses on developing sublte, novel distinctions in awareness and engagement to open up greater breathing capacities to facilitate  enhanced living.

Do I need any experience with breathwork or somatics?

No. This course is open to everyone. You don’t need any background – just a willingness to explore and feel.

What if I don’t feel much when I start?

That’s completely normal. Many of us aren’t used to paying attention to internal sensations. The more you practise, the more awareness naturally grows. There’s no right way to feel.  Over time with regular practice, you will begin to tune in to your sensations.

Is this a physical practice? Will I be moving a lot?

No fast movements or big exercises here. Some sessions involve gentle movements or changes of position, but it’s all slow, intentional, and guided by sensation – not effort.

Can I do the sessions in any order?

Each session works on its own. We suggest to initially go through them in the sequence we’ve put them in but equally, feel free to dip into whichever one calls to you.

What do I need to participate?

A quiet space to sit or lie down, and some cushions or blankets if you’d like extra support. Nothing fancy – just whatever helps you feel comfortable.  They are designed to be used wherever you are.

What if I get emotional or unsettled during a session?

That can happen. The breath connects to many layers of experience. You’re encouraged to take breaks, move gently, and give yourself space. There’s no pressure to push through.  You can always contact us at info@radiantstaryoga.com if you need additional support.

what people said about our previous courses…

Just to thank you for 7 years of joy. I’ve probably been along to over 300 classes and everyone was unique, well crafted and brilliantly carried out. And great fun with good people!

I can’t say anything in my life compares with this quality.

“I have been attending David’s Soma Yoga and Pranaleela classes this winter. These classes are a rare gem in the fast-paced world of Yoga! No matter how “advanced or new” to this practice, (I trained in yoga and somatics), David’s guidance and invitations to explore your inner world of suble movement with playfulness, will take you on deeper and deeper levels of internal awareness and expansion into another dimension, rarely experienced in other classes. Highly recommended!”
