As an experienced Somatic Educator immersed in the field of Somatics, I became fascinated by better understanding what a Soma is. In my research, I stumbled upon a profound revelation: viewing the soma as a cell—complete with its inner nucleus, outer membrane, and dynamic metabolism—offers a profound lens through which to understand the living process within.

Imagine the soma as a cell, pulsating with life, much like your own body. At its core lies the nucleus, the essence of your being—the seat of your deepest emotions, memories, and experiences. This inner nucleus is where your true self resides, guiding your actions in the world.

Further out from this nucleus is the outer membrane, serving as a protective barrier between the internal and external environments. It defines the boundaries of your being, shielding you from external influences while also facilitating interaction with the outside world. Just like a cell membrane, it is permeable, allowing for the exchange of energy, information, and emotions.

But what truly fascinated me was the metabolism active in the space between—the dynamic processes that unfold in the interplay between the inner nucleus and the outer membrane. Here, at the interface of self and environment, lies the essence of somatic experience.

In this space, we witness the dance of sensations, emotions, and movements. It’s where our inner world meets the external stimuli, giving rise to profound shifts in our bodily experience. Through somatics, we learn to navigate this space with awareness and intention, fostering a deeper connection between mind, body, and environment.

By embracing this cellular perspective, I came to better understand the soma not as a static entity but as a living process—a constant interplay of inner and outer dynamics. Just as a cell adapts to its environment, so too does the soma respond to the ever-changing circumstances of life.

In my work, I drew upon this understanding to guide individuals on journeys of self-discovery and healing. Assisting them in exploring the inner nucleus, strengthening the outer membrane, and nurturing the metabolism between, cultivating their resilience, authenticity, and vitality.

Through somatics, I guided people to tap into the inherent wisdom of their soma, uncovering layers of tension, trauma, and conditioning that may have been long buried. With gentle curiosity and compassionate inquiry, I invited these experiences to surface, allowing for integration and transformation.

As I continued to explore the depths of somatics, I experienced the profound interconnectedness of all living beings. Just as each cell contributes to the greater organism, so too do we contribute to the richness of humanity. By honoring the living process within, we open ourselves to the wonder of embodied existence, embracing the fullness of life in all its beauty and complexity.
